Christmas is just around the corner. It's crucial to get your decorating started early in the season. If you're like me, the idea of decorating for Christmas gives me anxiety. However, Christmas lights don't have to be nearly as difficult as you think they are. There are some great ideas out there. Whether you want to go all out and be seen from Santa's sleigh high in the sky, or if you just want to add a little extra holiday spirit to the neighborhood, there's something out there for you.
Traditional Christmas Lights
Traditional Christmas lights are obviously the favored decoration for the holiday season. These truly will get your house looking like Christmas. Hanging lights along the line of the roof always looks beautiful. However, if you're not feeling up to stringing lights from the roof because you have a two story, or because it's just plain hard, here are some additional ideas. String lights around windows and doors. Framing the windows and doors gives your home a clean look while remaining festive. Hang lights from the trees—even if they aren't fir trees. Another easy method to decorating the yard is to wrap lights around poles, lampposts, and the trunk of a tree. Try laying lights along pathways or the ridge of the garden. There are simply no wrong ways to put up Christmas lights.
Colored spotlights
Spotlights are possibly the easiest way to light up your house for the Christmas season. Spotlights and flood lights are available in a range of colors. Simply shining a green or red light on the side of the house will give your home plenty of holiday spirit. If you aren't interested in using colored spotlights to decorate the exterior of your home, try using just traditional spotlights instead. If you have a nativity scene, reindeer, or Santa's sleigh that you want to place in your backyard, a spotlight is the best way to draw attention to this. Spotlights can make it so that you can put any kind of decoration on the roof, and it will still be visible from the ground. Using spotlights to illuminate key decorations instead of using traditional strands of Christmas lights is also a great way to save money on your energy bill at Christmas.
Decorate Indoors
Who said you should only illuminate the outside of your home at Christmas? Isn't the inside of your home where your Christmas parties will be hosted and where your family will open gifts on Christmas day? Candles add a dramatic mood to your indoors. Putting lights or candles in decorative paper bags will create a cool effect for both the indoors and outdoors of your home. Stringing white lights across the ceilings, or making patterns on the walls is a beautiful effect that looks great in any home. Christmas lamps are a sometimes a difficult find, but they are a wonderful addition to your décor.
